描述
Hi, I'm using Linux Ubuntu 22.04 as a virtual machine. I am a university student and for my thesis, I have to use a haptic robot, called GeoMagic Touch, connected via USB cable. To share this device to the virtual machine, I checked the box corresponding to the robot in the "usb devices" menu. To interface with the robot, I use a software, called SOFA, developed by SOFA Framework (https://www.sofa-framework.org/), thanks to which I create a virtual simulation scene in which I use the robot. The robot works, but to be used in the scene, I have to reload the scene many times (even 10 times). I tried using an old model of this robot, connected with a LAN cable and I noticed that, unlike the model with a USB cable, this one connects immediately and I don't have to reload the scene several times. Why does this happen? I asked the support of the robot manufacturer and they told me that it is most likely a problem with the virtual machine. Could it be a problem with how the machine handles USB devices? I remember you that the robot connected with the LAN cable works perfectly. Best regards. Andrea.
Unfortunately there is nothing we can do without having at least a VBox.log of the VM showing the issue. Did you use the emulated xHCI controller for your VM? OHCI and EHCI are notoriously difficult to emulate and almost impossible to get working correctly with every USB device.
